ABOUT THE WINE

Petra Winery was founded in 1997 by Vittorio Moretti, renowned for Franciacorta's Bellavista, and his daughter Francesca in Suvereto, Val di Cornia, Maremma Toscana. The striking cellar, designed by Swiss architect Mario Botta, integrates harmoniously into the hilly landscape overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea. Drawing on ancient Etruscan roots—Hebo named after a historic settlement—and early 19th-century plantings by Elisa Bonaparte, the organic estate blends tradition with modern gravity-fed winemaking. Hebo, a vibrant Super Tuscan, reflects the ferrous, mineral-rich soils and Mediterranean climate of this emerging Tuscan coastal gem.
Hebo IGT Toscana 2022 is a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, and 10% Sangiovese (alcohol 14%). Grapes are hand-harvested from vineyards on varied soils of clay, sand, limestone, and marl, benefiting from sea breezes and hilly exposure. Fermentation occurs spontaneously with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures to preserve freshness. The wine ages for approximately 12 months in French oak barriques (with some larger barrels), followed by several months of bottle refinement. This process enhances structure while maintaining vibrancy, resulting in a balanced, elegant Super Tuscan suitable for medium-term aging. Organic practices ensure purity and terroir expression.

TASTING NOTE:

Bright ruby red with vivid hues. The nose is fresh and inviting, revealing aromas of black cherries, blueberries, violets, peonies, and subtle mineral notes intertwined with Mediterranean maquis shrubland and hints of balsamic herbs. On the palate, it is vibrant and savory, with ripe black fruit flavors—blackberry, cherry, and dried fruits—supported by gentle, well-integrated tannins and lively acidity. Light yet structured, it offers pleasant fruitiness, subtle sapidity, and elegant balance, leading to a persistent, fruity-balsamic finish with refined softness and satisfying length. A versatile, food-friendly red.
