ABOUT THE WINE

Petra Winery was founded in 1997 by Vittorio Moretti, renowned for Franciacorta's Bellavista, and his daughter Francesca in Suvereto, Val di Cornia, Maremma Toscana. The striking cellar, designed by Swiss architect Mario Botta, integrates harmoniously into the hilly landscape overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea. Drawing on ancient Etruscan roots—Hebo named after a historic settlement—and early 19th-century plantings by Elisa Bonaparte, the organic estate blends tradition with modern gravity-fed winemaking. Hebo, a vibrant Super Tuscan, reflects the ferrous, mineral-rich soils and Mediterranean climate of this emerging Tuscan coastal gem.
Hebo IGT Toscana 2021 is a Super Tuscan blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, and 10% Sangiovese (alcohol around 14%). Grapes are hand-harvested from mineral-rich, stony soils in Suvereto. Fermentation occurs with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures. Aging lasts 10-18 months primarily in large Slavonian oak barrels, with a portion in second/third-use French oak barriques, followed by further refinement in bottle. This process preserves freshness while imparting subtle structure, reflecting Petra's gravity-fed, low-intervention approach in the Mario Botta-designed cellar.

TASTING NOTE:

Bright ruby red with a purple tinge. The nose opens with vibrant fresh aromas of black cherry, violet, blueberry, and peony, layered with mineral notes, Mediterranean scrub (maquis), and subtle vanilla-spice hints from oak. On the palate, it is fresh and savory, light yet structured, with ripe black fruits, juicy cherry-raspberry, vibrant acidity, gentle well-integrated tannins, and a persistent, pleasantly fruity finish with delicate savory undertones. Elegant and approachable, it balances power and freshness beautifully.
