ABOUT THE WINE

Petra Winery was founded in 1997 by Vittorio Moretti, renowned for Franciacorta's Bellavista, and his daughter Francesca in Suvereto, Val di Cornia, Maremma Toscana. The striking cellar, designed by Swiss architect Mario Botta, integrates harmoniously into the hilly landscape overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea. Drawing on ancient Etruscan roots—Hebo named after a historic settlement—and early 19th-century plantings by Elisa Bonaparte, the organic estate blends tradition with modern gravity-fed winemaking. Hebo, a vibrant Super Tuscan, reflects the ferrous, mineral-rich soils and Mediterranean climate of this emerging Tuscan coastal gem.
Potenti IGT Toscana 2021 is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon (alcohol approx. 14.5%). Grapes are hand-harvested from the Potenti cru in Riotorto, on balanced clay-skeletal soils promoting structure and complexity, influenced by Mediterranean climate and sea proximity. Fermentation uses indigenous yeasts in controlled vessels, often with pre-maceration for extraction, followed by malolactic conversion. Aging occurs for about 12-18 months in French oak barriques (around 20% new), integrating subtle wood notes, then bottle refinement. Organic practices ensure terroir purity, producing a powerful yet refined wine with strong aging potential.

TASTING NOTE:

Deep, shimmering ruby red with purple hues. The nose is intense and memorable: blackberries, blackcurrants, blueberries, and plums, layered with herbaceous pepper, earthy notes, balsamic herbs, subtle milk chocolate, coffee, and spicy hints. On the palate, it's powerful and vigorous—medium to full-bodied—with gripping yet fine tannins, ripe dark fruit, fresh acidity, and mineral depth. Juicy, balanced, and persistent, with fruity-spicy echoes and elegant length. A bold Maremma Cabernet Sauvignon, ideal with grilled meats.
