Petra Winery was founded in 1997 by Vittorio Moretti, renowned for Franciacorta's Bellavista, and his daughter Francesca in Suvereto, Val di Cornia, Maremma Toscana. The striking cellar, designed by Swiss architect Mario Botta, integrates harmoniously into the hilly landscape overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea. Drawing on ancient Etruscan roots—Hebo named after a historic settlement—and early 19th-century plantings by Elisa Bonaparte, the organic estate blends tradition with modern gravity-fed winemaking. Hebo, a vibrant Super Tuscan, reflects the ferrous, mineral-rich soils and Mediterranean climate of this emerging Tuscan coastal gem.
Quercegobbe IGT Toscana 2021 is 100% Merlot. Grapes are hand-harvested at dawn from the eponymous cru on clay-limestone soils with sea-influenced breezes. After destemming and 3-day cold maceration, fermentation uses indigenous yeasts in temperature-controlled vessels, followed by malolactic in barrel. Aging lasts 18 months in 600L demi-muids (20% new oak, remainder second/third-use) for subtle integration, then further bottle refinement (often 10+ months). Organic practices emphasize purity, resulting in a dense yet balanced wine with excellent aging potential.
Intense ruby red with purple tinges. The nose is rich and alluring, bursting with blueberry jam, black cherry syrup, dried raspberries, and plums, layered with spicy cinnamon, black pepper, balsamic myrtle-eucalyptus, and subtle cedar-toasty oak hints. On the palate, it's elegant and vigorous: full-bodied yet fresh, with silky texture, fine minerality, ripe dark fruit flavors (plum, blackberry), polished tannins, vibrant acidity, and harmonious balance. The finish is long, harmonious, and persistent, with fruity-spicy echoes and refined softness. A sophisticated Maremma Merlot.
