ABOUT THE WINE

San Polo Montalcino is a distinguished organic winery in the heart of the Brunello di Montalcino DOCG zone, renowned for elegant, terroir-driven Sangiovese wines. Acquired in 2007 by Marilisa Allegrini (of the famed Valpolicella Allegrini family) and now run with her daughters Carlotta and Caterina, the estate spans 22 hectares (about 54 acres) at 450 meters elevation on the cooler southeastern slopes of Montalcino. This location provides a breezy microclimate with significant day-night temperature swings, ideal for producing fresh, aromatic Brunellos. The winery emphasizes sustainability and regenerative viticulture. It was the first in Tuscany to earn CasaClima certification (like LEED) and operates an innovative, largely underground cellar that blends tradition with modern eco-friendly practices. All wines are 100% estate-grown and bottled.
San Polo Rubio IGT Toscana 2020 is the estate’s vibrant, approachable “everyday” Sangiovese, named after the Italian word for “ruby.” Produced by the Allegrini family’s organic San Polo estate in the southeastern hills of Montalcino, it captures the freshness and purity of the terroir while offering excellent value and versatility. Unlike the estate’s Brunellos, Rubio is styled for earlier drinking, expressing the bright, fragrant character of Sangiovese from high-elevation vineyards. 100% Sangiovese from estate vineyards (300-450m altitude). Hand-harvested mid-to-late September. Cryomaceration followed by fermentation in stainless steel tanks at controlled low temperatures. Aged 10 months in stainless steel + 4 months in bottle. Alcohol 13.5%. Organic viticulture.

TASTING NOTE:

Brilliant ruby red with purple hues. Intense, fresh aromas of red cherry, violet, blackcurrant, and subtle spice. On the palate: well-structured yet balanced, with bright acidity, pleasant tannins, juicy red berry fruit, and great aromatic persistence. Elegant, drinkable, and versatile.
