ABOUT THE WINE

Petra Winery was founded in 1997 by Vittorio Moretti, renowned for Franciacorta's Bellavista, and his daughter Francesca in Suvereto, Val di Cornia, Maremma Toscana. The striking cellar, designed by Swiss architect Mario Botta, integrates harmoniously into the hilly landscape overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea. Drawing on ancient Etruscan roots—Hebo named after a historic settlement—and early 19th-century plantings by Elisa Bonaparte, the organic estate blends tradition with modern gravity-fed winemaking. Hebo, a vibrant Super Tuscan, reflects the ferrous, mineral-rich soils and Mediterranean climate of this emerging Tuscan coastal gem.
Alto IGT Toscana 2021 is 100% Sangiovese. Grapes are hand-harvested from high-elevation vineyards on stony, calcareous, manganese-rich soils in San Lorenzo, benefiting from Mediterranean climate and sea influence. After destemming, fermentation occurs in truncated conical oak vats or stainless steel with indigenous yeasts, including pre- and post-fermentative maceration for extraction. The wine ages 18 months in large French oak demi-muids (600L) or tonneau, promoting elegance over heavy oak influence, followed by 6-18 months bottle refinement. Organic practices preserve purity, yielding a structured wine with aging potential.

TASTING NOTE:

Intense ruby red with brilliant reflections. The nose opens with fresh wild berry aromas—cherries, morello, raspberries, and blueberries—interwoven with violet, rose petals, undergrowth, earthy humus, and subtle mineral notes, plus hints of leather, oak, and balsamic herbs. On the palate, it is rich yet fresh, savory and structured, with ripe red fruit flavors, prominent but polished tannins, vibrant acidity, and a distinctive mineral streak that balances the power. The finish is persistent, fruity-mineral, with elegant depth and satisfying length. A pure, terroir-driven Sangiovese ideal for Tuscan cuisine.
