ABOUT THE WINE
The iconic 50 & 50 is a legendary collaboration born in 1988 from a friendly dinner between the owners of Avignonesi (Montepulciano) and Capannelle (Gaiole in Chianti Classico). Avignonesi, a historic estate revived under Virginie Saverys with a strong focus on organic and regenerative viticulture, supplies the plush Merlot. Capannelle, founded in 1974 and known for elegant Sangiovese from its hillside vineyards, provides the structured Sangiovese component. This equal-partnership Super Tuscan perfectly marries the two varieties. Avignonesi & Capannelle 50 & 50 Toscana IGT 2021 is a 50% Sangiovese (from Capannelle) and 50% Merlot (from Avignonesi) blend. Grapes are vinified separately: Merlot with longer maceration, Sangiovese in large Slavonian oak vats and barriques. The wine ages approximately 18–24 months in French oak barriques, followed by bottle refinement. Alcohol: 13.5%. The 2021 vintage offers classic balance with freshness and concentration.
TASTING NOTE:
Deep ruby-red with purple reflections. The nose reveals ripe red and black fruits (black cherry, blueberry, plum), floral hints of violet and rose, Mediterranean herbs, sweet spices (vanilla, cinnamon), and subtle undergrowth. The palate is elegant and round, with silky, well-integrated tannins, vibrant freshness, harmonious fruit, and a long, satisfying finish. Approachable yet age-worthy. A refined Tuscan icon.
