San Polo Montalcino is a distinguished organic winery in the heart of the Brunello di Montalcino DOCG zone, renowned for elegant, terroir-driven Sangiovese wines. Acquired in 2007 by Marilisa Allegrini (of the famed Valpolicella Allegrini family) and now run with her daughters Carlotta and Caterina, the estate spans 22 hectares (about 54 acres) at 450 meters elevation on the cooler southeastern slopes of Montalcino. This location provides a breezy microclimate with significant day-night temperature swings, ideal for producing fresh, aromatic Brunellos. The winery emphasizes sustainability and regenerative viticulture. It was the first in Tuscany to earn CasaClima certification (like LEED) and operates an innovative, largely underground cellar that blends tradition with modern eco-friendly practices. All wines are 100% estate-grown and bottled.
San Polo Brunello di Montalcino 2019 is the classic “annata” Brunello from the Allegrini family’s organic estate on the southeastern slopes of Montalcino (approx. 450m elevation). The 2019 vintage featured a long, uneven growing season with late harvest, resulting in wines of excellent balance, vibrant acidity, and graceful structure. 100% Sangiovese from the estate’s historic vineyards. Hand-harvested end of September. Soft crushing, fermentation in concrete tanks, malolactic in oak. Aged 30 months in large oak casks (1000L, 2000L, 4000L), followed by at least 6 months in bottle. Alcohol ~14%. Organic viticulture.
Bright ruby with garnet reflections. Inviting nose of ripe cherry, raspberry, violet, wild herbs, peony, cedar, and subtle spice. Medium-to-full bodied, graceful and balanced on the palate with bright acidity, fine tannins, red berry fruit, stony minerality, and a long, elegant finish.
