Azienda Agricola Rallo, nestled in western Sicily, boasts a rich legacy spanning over 160 years. Founded in 1860 by visionary Don Diego Rallo in Marsala, it pioneered Marsala wines and Passito di Pantelleria, exporting to Europe and the Americas. In 1996, the Vesco family from Alcamo acquired the historic baglio estate and brand, merging it with their vineyards to shift from bulk and fortified wines to premium dry whites. Today, operating certified organic vineyards (BioSuisse, BioAgricert since 2011) across Alcamo (Catarratto, Nero d'Avola), Marsala (Grillo), and Pantelleria (Zibibbo), Rallo crafts fragrant, terroir-driven wines. Early harvests and sustainable dry-farming yield crisp, elegant expressions of Sicilian natives.
Beleda is a 100% Catarratto (likely including bianco comune and lucida clones) Sicilia DOP white wine from organically farmed vineyards near Alcamo. The grapes undergo careful selection and vinification to preserve freshness. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel tanks, followed by maturation for about 8 months on fine lees, adding structure, subtle fullness, and elegance without oak influence. No heavy filtration is applied to maintain natural character. Alcohol content is around 13% vol, with total extract approximately 24 g/l and balanced acidity. It is certified organic, emphasizing minimal intervention for a clean, terroir-driven profile.
The 2023 Rallo Beleda pours greenish-yellow with straw hues, offering a complex, graceful nose of ripe citrus (grapefruit, lime), white peach, pear, tropical notes like pineapple, and delicate spring wildflowers. On the palate, it is round and creamy yet invigorating, with flavors of apple, pineapple, tropical fruit, dried lemon peel, and baked yellow plums. Medium-bodied with lively freshness, sharp minerality, and a sapid backbone, it finishes long, clean, and refined. This organic Catarratto balances fruit opulence with crisp acidity and subtle elegance, making it versatile for seafood, appetizers, or light dishes.
