ABOUT THE WINE
Courtault-Michelot Chablis 1er Cru Mont de Milieu 2023, a pristine Chardonnay from Burgundy's northern Chablis outpost, emerges from a family legacy blending tradition and innovation. Founded in 1984 by Jean-Claude Courtault in Lignorelles, the estate—now helmed by daughter Stéphanie and son-in-law Vincent Michelet, with his Loire Valley expertise. Sustainable viticulture, nearing organic practices, nurtures 30-year-old vines on the premier cru's prized Kimmeridgian limestone, rich in fossilized oyster shells, on the Serein's right bank between Fleys and Fyé. Tasting notes unveil a pale gold hue with an aromatic lift of white peach, apricot, lemon zest, and wet flint, laced with acacia flowers and subtle almond. Medium-bodied and electric, the palate bursts with zesty grapefruit, crisp green apple, and chalky minerality, framed by vibrant acidity, silky texture, and gunflint tension that builds to a saline, lingering finish.
