The 2023 Domaine Daniel Dampt Côte de Léchet Chablis 1er Cru is crafted from 100% Chardonnay grapes grown on a 2.8-hectare parcel of 30-year-old vines in the steep, southeast-facing Côte de Léchet Premier Cru on the left bank of the Serein River. This prime site features thin Kimmeridgian limestone over clay-marl soils, fostering concentration and minerality. In a vintage marked by sunny, dry conditions yielding ripe yet balanced fruit, grapes were hand-picked, gently pressed, and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks at 16-18°C to retain vibrancy—no oak used. Partial malolactic fermentation and 12-15 months' lees aging enhance texture.
Pale gold with subtle green tints, the 2023 Côte de Léchet 1er Cru exudes a vibrant, complex nose of fresh lemon and lime zest, sea-spray salinity, fennel seed, and white florals, laced with oyster shell minerality and a hint of pink grapefruit. The palate bursts with medium-plus body and ripe stone fruit—nectarine, peach, and melon—balanced by lively, medium-plus acidity and a chalky, talc-like grip that channels the Kimmeridgian terroir.
