ABOUT THE WINE

Domaine Daniel Dampt & Fils, nestled in the historic village of Milly within Chablis, northern Burgundy, boasts a winemaking legacy spanning over 150 years. Founded through generations of family dedication, the estate traces its roots to the Dampt lineage, with Daniel Dampt merging his domaine with that of his father-in-law, Jean Defaix. Today, sons Vincent and Sébastien Dampt helm operations, blending ancestral traditions with innovative practices. Spanning 30 hectares, including 16 hectares of Chablis and 14 hectares of Premier Cru sites like Vaillons, Fourchaume, Côte de Léchet, Les Lys, and Beauroy, the domaine emphasizes sustainable viticulture. Their state-of-the-art stainless steel cellar, built in 1990, ensures precise production of around 150,000 bottles annually, all estate-grown and bottled to preserve the pure essence of Chardonnay. Renowned for elegant, terroir-driven wines, Domaine Daniel Dampt upholds Chablis's stellar reputation among connoisseurs worldwide.
The 2022 Domaine Daniel Dampt Fourchaume Chablis 1er Cru is a refined white wine made from 100% Chardonnay, sourced from a prime 2.5-hectare parcel of 45-55-year-old vines in the prestigious Fourchaume Premier Cru vineyard. Perched on steep, southwest-facing slopes with classic Kimmeridgian marl and limestone soils rich in marine fossils, the site yields concentrated, mineral-driven fruit. Grapes are hand-picked at optimal maturity, gently pressed, and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to retain freshness—no oak influence. The wine undergoes partial malolactic fermentation and ages on fine lees for 12-15 months, enhancing texture.

TASTING NOTE:

Brilliant pale gold with greenish glints, the 2022 Domaine Daniel Dampt Fourchaume 1er Cru opens with an intense bouquet of ripe yellow apple, mirabelle plum, and lemon zest, interwoven with oyster shell minerality, white peach blossom, and a subtle smoky flint edge. The palate is richly textured yet precise, balancing creamy orchard fruit and candied ginger with a razor-sharp acidity and pronounced chalky grip from the Kimmeridgian terroir. Medium-to-full-bodied, it evolves into layers of saline brine, hazelnut, and honeysuckle, culminating in a long, vibrant finish laced with wet stone and citrus pith. More opulent than village-level Chablis yet retaining steely elegance.
