Founded in 2001 by siblings Marilisa Allegrini and Walter Allegrini from the historic Allegrini family of Valpolicella (Veneto), it marked their bold venture beyond their native region to explore Bolgheri's exceptional terroir and coastal influence. The name "Poggio al Tesoro" translates to "hill of treasure," reflecting the precious land they discovered. Starting with just a few hectares, the estate has grown to over 100 hectares (with about 64 under vine), spread across four distinct plots: Le Sondraie, Via Bolgherese, Chiesina di San Giuseppe, and Valle di Cerbaia. This diversity allows for varied soils and microclimates, emphasizing varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Vermentino. Marilisa Allegrini now leads the winery with her daughters, focusing on sustainability, innovation, and tradition. Flagship wines include Sondraia Bolgheri Superiore and Dedicato a Walter (a rare 100% Cabernet Franc). Today, it stands as one of Bolgheri's largest and most acclaimed estates.
Solosole is a 100% Vermentino from select coastal plots, vinified in stainless steel (with soft pressing, pre-fermentative maceration, and temperature-controlled fermentation at 14-16°C, no malolactic), followed by lees aging in steel and brief bottle refinement. Alcohol is around 13-14%, yielding a crisp, dry style.
The 2022 vintage shines with bright straw-yellow color tinged green. Aromas feature citrus (candied lime, lemon zest, grapefruit), exotic notes (ginger, passionfruit, peach, apricot), white flowers, flint, and subtle herbs. On the palate, it's medium-bodied, fresh, and textural with lively acidity, mineral salinity, crushed rocks, stone fruit, and a long, zesty, saline finish—crisp, exotic, and elegant, perfect for seafood.
