ABOUT THE WINE

Prophet’s Rock, established in 1999 in Central Otago, New Zealand, is a boutique winery celebrated for its artisanal approach to crafting exceptional Pinot Noir, Riesling, and Pinot Gris. Nestled in the rugged, picturesque landscape of the world’s southernmost wine region, the winery operates two organically certified vineyards: the Home Vineyard in Bendigo and the Rocky Point Vineyard in Lowburn. These sites, perched at elevations of 320–390 meters, benefit from unique soils of clay, limestone, schist, and quartz, shaped by ancient glacial activity, imparting distinctive minerality and intensity to the wines. Under the guidance of acclaimed winemaker Paul Pujol, Prophet’s Rock employs minimal-intervention techniques, indigenous yeasts, and meticulous vineyard management to express the region’s terroir.
Prophet’s Rock Home Vineyard Pinot Noir 2022 is a distinguished red wine from the heart of Central Otago, New Zealand, crafted by the renowned winemaker Paul Pujol at their estate in the Bendigo sub-region. Sourced exclusively from the north-facing Home Vineyard, perched at 320–390 meters above sea level, this Pinot Noir is grown on unique clay, limestone, schist, and quartz soils, shaped by ancient glacial activity. Certified organic since 2018, the vineyard yields intense fruit, which Pujol masterfully transforms using indigenous yeasts and minimal extraction techniques, followed by 17 months of aging in French oak (35% new).

TASTING NOTE:

This wine captivates with a restrained yet aromatic nose, revealing cherries, spices, earth, and hints of soy. On the palate, it offers a full, layered experience with velvety tannins, vibrant red and black fruit notes—think pomegranate, cherry, and blackberry—complemented by savory elements like licorice, star anise, and subtle oak. Critics praise its depth, balance, and creamy, long finish. With a 13.5% ABV and a Diam cork closure, this medium-bodied Pinot Noir is both approachable now and cellar-worthy through 2033, making it a standout expression of Central Otago’s terroir.
