Prophet’s Rock, established in 1999 in Central Otago, New Zealand, is a boutique winery celebrated for its artisanal approach to crafting exceptional Pinot Noir, Riesling, and Pinot Gris. Nestled in the rugged, picturesque landscape of the world’s southernmost wine region, the winery operates two organically certified vineyards: the Home Vineyard in Bendigo and the Rocky Point Vineyard in Lowburn. These sites, perched at elevations of 320–390 meters, benefit from unique soils of clay, limestone, schist, and quartz, shaped by ancient glacial activity, imparting distinctive minerality and intensity to the wines. Under the guidance of acclaimed winemaker Paul Pujol, Prophet’s Rock employs minimal-intervention techniques, indigenous yeasts, and meticulous vineyard management to express the region’s terroir.
Prophet’s Rock Cuvée Aux Antipodes Blanc 2022 is an exquisite Chardonnay from Central Otago, New Zealand, born from a collaboration between Prophet’s Rock winemaker Paul Pujol and Burgundian icon François Millet, formerly of Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé. This rare white wine, a counterpart to their acclaimed Pinot Noir collaboration, is sourced from a select parcel of the organic-certified Home Vineyard in the Bendigo sub-region, grown on clay, limestone, schist, and quartz soils at 320–390 meters elevation. Employing traditional Burgundian techniques, the grapes are whole-bunch pressed, fermented with indigenous yeasts in French oak (30% new)
The 2022 Cuvée Aux Antipodes Blanc offers a captivating nose of white peach, lemon zest, flint, and subtle toasted almond, with hints of brioche and wet stone. On the palate, it is medium-bodied with a creamy yet precise texture, delivering vibrant flavors of citrus, green apple, and stone fruit, layered with savory notes of chalky minerality and delicate oak spice. Its bright acidity and refined structure culminate in a long, elegant finish. With a 13% ABV, this wine is approachable now with decanting but will evolve beautifully through 2032–2037.
