Lanson’s vintage Bruts are very selectively blended, exclusively from Grand Cru villages, from fruit with the requisite richness to balance the house’s non-malo style. These particular crus—all on the Côte des Blancs for Chardonnay and the Montagne de Reims for Pinot Noir—have been consistently chosen for decades, making their specific characters crucial for Lanson’s style.
Lanson has been making vintage Champagne for a long time; as vintages take time to mature in the cellar and develop extraordinary aromas, “1904, 1928, 1955, 1971, 1976, 1983 and 1990 were all great years that have built the reputation of the House over time.” Today Lanson’s vintage Bruts are composed from roughly equal parts Chardonnay and Pinot Noir and are aged for an extraordinary average of nine years on the lees before disgorgement.
The Lanson 1990 displays a golden amber colour with copper hues. Powerful honey, fir tree, wax and ginger bread aromas dominate. The initial impact is full-bodied and complex with honey and sweet spice flavours of cinnamon and vanilla. A candied orange finish highlights the great richness of this exceptional vintage.
