Domaine de la Roseraie is a small, family-oriented natural wine estate founded in 2012 by Julien Petitjean in Nolay, within the Côte de Beaune. A former historian and archaeologist with a background in musicology, Petitjean transitioned to viticulture after training at La Viti in Beaune and working at various domaines in the Côte de Nuits. The property spans about 5–5.8 hectares (with roughly 2.8–3 ha in active production) across appellations including Beaune, Hautes-Côtes de Beaune, and Bourgogne. Committed to minimal intervention and environmental respect, the domaine practices biodynamic-inspired methods, agrobiology without synthetic chemicals, cover cropping, biodiversity enhancement with trees and spontaneous plants, and lightweight equipment to preserve soil life. Winemaking emphasizes purity, ancestral techniques, and terroir expression with little to no added sulfites.
Domaine de la Roseraie Gymnopodie Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Beaune 2022 is a single-vineyard Pinot Noir from the 0.4 ha plot “Baudet au Nord” in Cormot-Nolay. The old vines (aged 56–71 years) grow on clay-limestone soils at higher altitude, contributing freshness and minerality. It is 100% Pinot Noir, farmed with minimal intervention and biodynamic-inspired practices. Vinification is minimalist: whole-bunch fermentation using gentle infusion techniques with very limited extraction. The wine ages approximately 18 months in oak barrels (low percentage new oak), followed by natural stabilization and hand-bottling without fining or filtration.
Bright pale ruby hue. The nose bursts with sweet and ripe red berries — raspberry, strawberry, and cherry — alongside subtle green herbs and forest floor undertones. The palate is juicy and energetic, dominated by vibrant red fruits with a touch of wild liquorice root for structure, silky refined tannins, lively acidity, and a long, refreshing finish. Elegant, pure, and highly drinkable with beautiful natural charm. Approachable now, it will develop nicely through 2029–2030. A vibrant, terroir-driven expression of Hautes-Côtes de Beaune from the excellent 2022 vintage.
