Château Montrose stands as one of Bordeaux's most prestigious estates, located in the Saint-Estèphe appellation. This "super second" growth has earned its reputation for producing wines that rival the first growths while maintaining exceptional value. Founded in 1815, Montrose is notably the youngest of all the 1855 Classified Growths. The estate's name derives from the local sailors who called the area "Mont Rose" due to the pink heather that bloomed on the hillsides. Under the visionary leadership of Mathieu Dollfus, who purchased the estate in 1861, Montrose became a pioneer in worker welfare, introducing groundbreaking benefits including profit sharing, healthcare, and maternity leave.
The 2015 Château Montrose Saint-Estèphe presents itself with impressive depth of color and powerful aromatic complexity, offering intense scents of tobacco, cassis, and boysenberry complemented by warm spices. This full-bodied wine showcases remarkable concentration and structure, featuring substantial tannic presence that suggests significant aging potential. The palate delivers layers of ripe, sweet fruit alongside firm tannins throughout the lengthy finish. Composed of 67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot, and 4% Cabernet Franc.
