ABOUT THE WINE
Bodegas La Purísima is one of the largest and most historic cooperatives in Spain's Yecla DO, founded in 1946 by a group of local farmers uniting to elevate Yecla wine quality. Located in southeastern Spain's hot, continental climate with high-altitude, old-vine vineyards, it focuses on Monastrell as the flagship grape, alongside blends that highlight the region's bold, fruit-forward reds. The 2020 Old Vines Expression Yecla (a GSM-style blend: primarily Monastrell with Syrah and Garnacha from hand-harvested old vines) is a standout value: deep ruby-violet hue with a modern, nuanced nose of chocolate-covered black cherry, raspberry, blackberry, dark plum, baking spice, lavender, and subtle brioche/toasty notes. The palate is fleshy and powerful—ripe black/red fruits, relaxed tannins, integrated spice, savory depth, and a long, spicy finish.
