Château Simard is a respected Saint-Émilion Grand Cru estate with roots dating to the 15th–18th centuries, named after a former owner, Count Simard. The property was historically larger but split in the 19th century by railway construction, leading to the creation of sister estate Château Haut-Simard. Since 2008, it has been owned and managed by the renowned Vauthier family of legendary Château Ausone. The 2016 vintage excels in Saint-Émilion: a blend typically of ~75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc. It offers a nose of ripe blackcurrant, cherry, plum, fresh herbs, thyme, spice, and subtle chocolate/tobacco notes. On the palate, it's juicy, elegant, and plush with soft-medium tannins, bright acidity, ripe black/red fruits, and a fresh, balanced finish.
