Giuseppe Cortese Morassina Barbera d'Alba DOC 2020, a vibrant expression of Piedmont's unsung hero grape, hails from the esteemed Cortese family estate in Locorotondo, Barbaresco. Founded in 1971 by Giuseppe Cortese, the domaine spans 10 hectares of prime calcareous-clay hillside vineyards, including the legendary Rabajà cru. Committed to organic practices and minimal intervention, they craft terroir-transparent wines that honor tradition while embracing modernity. This 100% Barbera, sourced from 40-year-old vines in the Morassina parcel near Alba. Tasting notes display a deep ruby-violet hue with an intense, velvety bouquet of macerated dark cherry, blackberry, lavender, grilled herbs, and tobacco, edged by violet and baking spice. Full-bodied yet fresh, it unfurls juicy plum, boysenberry, and wild earth on the palate, wrapped in supple tannins, bright acidity, and a savory mineral streak, culminating in a long, flavorful finish with mocha whispers.
