Jean Fournier Clos du Roy Marsannay 2022, a refined Pinot Noir from Burgundy’s northern Côte de Nuits, stems from a historic 17-hectare estate in Marsannay-la-Côte, family-run since 1602. Laurent Fournier, at the helm since 2002, champions organic farming (certified 2018) and biodynamic principles, tending 45-year-old vines in the walled Clos du Roy—a 1.2-hectare monopole on clay-limestone slopes with eastern exposure. Tasting notes reveal a bright ruby robe with an explosive nose of crushed raspberry, black cherry, peony, and sous-bois, laced with clove and wet stone. Medium-bodied and silky, it dances with juicy red berries, fine-grained tannins, lively acidity, and a mineral spine, finishing long with earthy spice and violet echoes.
