Casa Rojo is a creative, family-owned winery based in Jumilla, Spain, founded by the Rojo family with a focus on expressive, high-quality wines from various Spanish regions. Known for innovative yet terroir-driven projects, they source grapes from carefully selected old vineyards across appellations like Rueda to produce vibrant, characterful whites that highlight native varieties with modern precision. El Gordo del Circo Rueda 2022 is a 100% Verdejo sourced from approximately 30-year-old organic vines in Olmedo, Valdestillas, and Segovia areas on gravelly-sandy soils. Grapes undergo a 24-hour cold maceration, followed by fermentation of free-run must at low temperature (around 14°C) in stainless steel. The wine then ages on fine lees for 5 months with weekly bâtonnage for added texture and complexity. Alcohol: 13%. The 2022 vintage was warm and dry, yielding good concentration balanced by Rueda’s natural freshness.
Bright straw-yellow with greenish reflections. Elegant and intense nose featuring fennel, hay, cut grass, anise, ripe pear, green apple, grapefruit, pineapple, and subtle tropical nuances. The palate is round, fresh, and structured with vibrant acidity, creamy texture from lees aging, layered fruit, herbal spice, and a long, crisp, mineral finish.
