Domaine Chapelle de Blagny (formerly Domaine de Blagny) is a historic family estate in the tiny hamlet of Blagny, nestled between Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet in the Côte de Beaune, Burgundy. The property has deep roots dating back to the Cistercian monks and Gallo-Roman times, with the de Montlivaut family acquiring it in 1811. Today it remains family-run, producing elegant, terroir-driven wines from its own vineyards exclusively located in Blagny. The domaine crafts four Premier Cru whites and one rare red from the unique “Sous le Dos d’Âne” climat. Chapelle de Blagny Blagny 1er Cru “Sous le Dos d’Ane” 2022 is a rare 100% Pinot Noir red. This 1-hectare parcel is the only plot in the climat planted with Pinot Noir (most of the area is Chardonnay). The vines average around 30 years old on limestone-rich soils. Vinification is traditional with gentle extraction, followed by 12 months aging in French oak barrels (about 30% new), then a few months in tank before bottling.
Dark garnet colour with an elegant, delicate nose of wild redcurrant, raspberry, blackcurrant, undergrowth, liquorice, and subtle floral/spicy notes (sandalwood, pepper). The palate is refined and juicy with silky tannins, fresh red and black fruit, beautiful structure, vibrant energy, and a powerful, warm, long aromatic finish. A polished, age-worthy expression of this rare Blagny red.
