ABOUT THE WINE

Schloss Vollrads, located in Oestrich-Winkel, Rheingau, is one of Germany’s oldest wineries, with wine sales documented since 1211. Spanning 80 hectares of Riesling vineyards, it’s managed by the Nassauische Sparkasse since 1997, preserving its 800-year legacy. The estate, certified organic since 2022, cultivates south-facing slopes along the Rhine, benefiting from diverse geological formations like quartzite and loess. A founding VDP member, Schloss Vollrads is renowned for its elegant Rieslings, from Kabinett to Trockenbeerenauslese. The iconic 14th-century moated tower and modern facilities, including a wine shop and restaurant, make it a cultural and viticultural landmark.

The 2022 Schloss Vollrads Winkel Riesling Spätlese offers a pale gold hue with vibrant clarity. Its nose bursts with ripe peach, apricot, and tropical mango, complemented by floral hints and a touch of minerality. On the palate, it’s harmoniously sweet, with dynamic acidity balancing lush fruit flavors of pineapple and citrus. The finish is long, with a clean, fruity linger and subtle spice. This classic Spätlese, free of botrytis, showcases Rheingau’s terroir with elegance and finesse. Ideal with Asian cuisine or blue cheese, it’s approachable now but will age gracefully for 10–15 years.
