A PRECIOUS WINE

Domaine de Baron'Arques, located in Saint-Polycarpe near Limoux in Languedoc-Roussillon, is a historic estate dating to the 17th century. Acquired by Baroness Philippine de Rothschild and her sons in 1998, it spans 110 hectares, with 43 hectares of vineyards. Renowned for its meticulous care, the estate, part of the Baron Philippe de Rothschild portfolio, produces high-quality AOC Limoux wines. Organic practices and a Mediterranean climate with diverse soils yield complex wines. After extensive renovations, the domaine achieved AOC Limoux rouge status in 2003, with its Chardonnay-driven whites gaining acclaim for their elegance and depth.
The 2018 Domaine de Baron'Arques Blanc Limoux is 100% Chardonnay from hand-picked grapes in the Limoux vineyards’ limestone and clay soils. Fermented in French oak barrels (30% new) with native yeasts, it undergoes malolactic fermentation and ages for 6 months in oak, enhancing complexity. The wine is unfiltered, with yields of approximately 35 hl/ha and an alcohol content of 14%. The cool, high-altitude (250–350 meters) terroir ensures balanced acidity and fruit concentration. Bottled after minimal intervention, it reflects the estate’s commitment to precision and terroir expression.

TASTING NOTE:

The 2018 Domaine de Baron'Arques Blanc Limoux displays a crystalline pale gold hue with a greenish tint. Its nose is complex, offering intense acacia blossom, honeyed pear, and citrus, with spicy white pepper and toasted oak nuances. On the palate, it’s well-balanced, with refreshing acidity complementing ripe peach, apricot, and subtle vanilla. The finish is long, round, and elegant, with buttery notes and vibrant fruit. This Chardonnay, reminiscent of fine Burgundy, pairs beautifully with seafood or creamy dishes. Decant for 30 minutes to enhance its richness. It’s approachable now but will evolve gracefully for years.
