Domaine des Grandes Espérances, located in Mesland, Loire Valley, France, is a family-run estate founded in 1998, dedicated to organic viticulture since 2011. Spanning 30 hectares, the winery cultivates Chenin Blanc and other local varieties on flinty clay soils, emphasizing sustainability and terroir expression. Under winemaker Laurent Trottier, the estate employs meticulous hand-harvesting and minimal-intervention techniques to craft vibrant, authentic wines. Known for its innovative cuvées, Domaine des Grandes Espérances blends tradition with creativity, producing wines like Aurore that reflect the Loire’s mineral-driven character. The estate’s commitment to quality has earned it recognition for its elegant, terroir-focused offerings.
The 2014 Domaine des Grandes Espérances Songe d'une Nuit d'Été Vin de France is 100% Chenin Blanc from vines on flinty clay soils. Hand-harvested in late October to achieve noble rot (Botrytis cinerea), grapes undergo a short maceration before fermentation in stainless steel tanks. The wine is aged for 12 months in used oak barrels. Bottled with minimal sulfites, it has 12.5% alcohol and is certified organic (FR-BIO-01). This 500ml sweet white reflects the 2014 vintage’s humid conditions, enhancing botrytis development for concentrated sweetness and balanced acidity.
The 2014 Songe d'une Nuit d'Été glows golden, offering an inviting nose of honey, ripe apricot, and candied orange peel, with hints of quince and spice. The palate is rich yet balanced, with luscious stone fruit, caramel, and a touch of minerality, supported by vibrant acidity that prevents cloying sweetness. Its smooth, lingering finish is both decadent and refreshing. Serve at 8-10°C with foie gras, blue cheese, or fruit tarts. Drink now or cellar for added complexity. This sweet Chenin Blanc captivates with its Loire elegance.
