A PRECIOUS WINE

Domaine des Grandes Espérances, located in Mesland, Loire Valley, France, is a family-run estate founded in 1998, dedicated to organic viticulture since 2011. Spanning 30 hectares, the winery cultivates Chenin Blanc and other local varieties on flinty clay soils, emphasizing sustainability and terroir expression. Under winemaker Laurent Trottier, the estate employs meticulous hand-harvesting and minimal-intervention techniques to craft vibrant, authentic wines. Known for its innovative cuvées, Domaine des Grandes Espérances blends tradition with creativity, producing wines like Aurore that reflect the Loire’s mineral-driven character. The estate’s commitment to quality has earned it recognition for its elegant, terroir-focused offerings.
The 2019 Domaine des Grandes Espérances Le Roi Soleil Touraine is 100% Sauvignon Blanc from 30-year-old vines on clay-loam soils. Hand-harvested at full ripeness in early October, grapes undergo 12-hour skin maceration and 48-hour cold stabilization to maximize aromatics. Fermentation occurs in barrels used for two vintages, followed by aging on fine lees with regular stirring for added richness. Bottled with minimal sulfites, it has 12.5% alcohol and is certified organic (FR-BIO-01). Low yields (35 hl/ha) ensure concentrated flavors, reflecting the vintage’s balanced conditions and the flinty terroir’s mineral influence.

TASTING NOTE:

Le Roi Soleil 2019 shines with a golden-yellow hue, offering a complex nose of exotic fruits, vanilla, and acacia, with hints of flinty minerality. The palate is round and vibrant, blending ripe citrus, mango, and subtle oak notes with a mineral backbone. Fine acidity and a dynamic, lengthy finish enhance its elegance. Serve at 10-12°C with seafood, asparagus, or creamy dishes like moules au Roquefort. Drink now or cellar for added depth. This wine’s richness and minerality make it a versatile, expressive Sauvignon Blanc.
