ABOUT THE WINE

Voyager Estate, established in 1978 by Michael Wright, is a cornerstone of Western Australia’s Margaret River wine region, located in the Stevens Valley of the Wallcliffe sub-region. Renowned for its organic, estate-grown wines, particularly Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon blends, the winery spans 110 hectares of gravelly loam vineyards, benefiting from a maritime climate ideal for producing elegant, terroir-driven wines. Fully certified organic since 2023, Voyager emphasizes sustainability through practices like composting and minimal intervention, under the leadership of Chief Winemaker Tim Shand and owner Alexandra Burt. Its iconic Cape Dutch-style cellar door and award-winning restaurant offer tastings and degustation menus, earning accolades like Halliday Wine Companion’s “Winery of the Year” in 2020.

TASTING NOTE:

The 2023 Voyager Estate Cabernets is a classic multi-varietal Bordeaux blend, reflecting the estate's signature style of structured yet approachable reds. Sourced primarily from three standout organic Cabernet Sauvignon blocks on gravelly soils in the Wallcliffe subregion, it offers a deep expression of the vintage's generous fruit and refined tannins. This wine bursts open with perfumed aromas of ripe plum, mulberry, and dark cherry, laced with black pepper, clove spice, and hints of dark chocolate. On the palate, it's juicy and medium- to full-bodied, delivering concentrated red and black berry flavors with velvety, fine-grained tannins that provide structure without aggression. Fresh acidity keeps it vibrant, while subtle French oak integration adds a spiced, mocha-like finish—elegant and lingering. It's an outstanding all-rounder: versatile with grilled meats, lamb, or aged cheeses, and a testament to Margaret River's status as Australia's premier Cabernet territory.
