Bodegas La Purísima, a storied cooperative winery founded in 1946 in the heart of Yecla DO—southeastern Spain's smallest and northernmost appellation in Murcia—manages over 60% of the region's vineyards, drawing from a network of more than 400 members. Known for its commitment to Monastrell (Mourvèdre) and innovative blends, the estate sources grapes from ancient, low-yielding vines exceeding 35 years old, planted in sandy-limestone soils on bush vines (en vaso).
The 2020 vintage, a stellar year of balanced ripeness amid dry, warm conditions, yields a bold yet refined expression of old-vine intensity. Aged 12 months in French oak barrels, it showcases the bodega's mastery in blending tradition with modern elegance.
Deep garnet with violet hues. Ripe black cherry, plum, and blueberry, laced with Mediterranean garrigue (thyme, rosemary), dark chocolate, and subtle vanilla from oak. Full-bodied and structured, with velvety tannins, juicy black fruit core, spicy black pepper, and balsamic undertones. Bright acidity ensures a long, elegant finish. Perfect with roast lamb, tapas, or hard cheeses like Manchego.
