San Polo Montalcino is a distinguished organic winery in the heart of the Brunello di Montalcino DOCG zone, renowned for elegant, terroir-driven Sangiovese wines. Acquired in 2007 by Marilisa Allegrini (of the famed Valpolicella Allegrini family) and now run with her daughters Carlotta and Caterina, the estate spans 22 hectares (about 54 acres) at 450 meters elevation on the cooler southeastern slopes of Montalcino. This location provides a breezy microclimate with significant day-night temperature swings, ideal for producing fresh, aromatic Brunellos. The winery emphasizes sustainability and regenerative viticulture. It was the first in Tuscany to earn CasaClima certification (like LEED) and operates an innovative, largely underground cellar that blends tradition with modern eco-friendly practices. All wines are 100% estate-grown and bottled.
San Polo Rosso di Montalcino 2022 750ml is a vibrant, approachable 100% Sangiovese from the San Polo estate on the southeastern slopes of Montalcino, Tuscany. It showcases the freshness and purity of the grape while offering excellent value as a younger sibling to Brunello. 2022 in Montalcino was hot and dry overall, yet a late recovery with balanced ripening produced fresh, expressive wines. Harvest occurred in mid-to-late September, yielding grapes with good acidity and aromatic integrity despite the warm conditions.
Bright ruby red. Aromas of fresh red berries, sour cherry, blackberry, rose, and subtle vanilla/spice. On the palate, it is juicy and smooth with medium body, vibrant red fruit, balanced tannins, fresh acidity, and a dynamic, harmonious finish.
