Azienda Agricola Rallo, nestled in western Sicily, boasts a rich legacy spanning over 160 years. Founded in 1860 by visionary Don Diego Rallo in Marsala, it pioneered Marsala wines and Passito di Pantelleria, exporting to Europe and the Americas. In 1996, the Vesco family from Alcamo acquired the historic baglio estate and brand, merging it with their vineyards to shift from bulk and fortified wines to premium dry whites. Today, operating certified organic vineyards (BioSuisse, BioAgricert since 2011) across Alcamo (Catarratto, Nero d'Avola), Marsala (Grillo), and Pantelleria (Zibibbo), Rallo crafts fragrant, terroir-driven wines. Early harvests and sustainable dry-farming yield crisp, elegant expressions of Sicilian natives.
RALLO AV01 IGP TERRE SICILIANE 2023 is a 100% Catarratto orange wine from certified organic vineyards in the Alcamo/Patti Piccolo area, western Sicily, on sandy-calcareous soils. Vines use vertical trellis with low Guyot pruning and dry-farming. Grapes are hand-harvested early-morning for freshness, undergo short skin maceration (24 hours), brief fermentation in acacia barrels (3 days), followed by malolactic fermentation and maturation in stainless steel. Naturally fermented, unfined, unfiltered, with no added sulphur. Lightly hazy appearance, ~13% ABV, natural cork closure.
Bright straw-yellow to light amber-orange with subtle haze, reflecting its skin-contact style. The nose bursts with vivid citrus—orange peel, bergamot, grapefruit—layered over baked apricot, spiced peach, cooked orange marmalade, ripe yellow fruit, Mediterranean herbs, underbrush, and elegant smoky-mineral notes. On the palate, it's textured yet fresh: pleasantly bitter tannins from skins add grip and structure, balancing light body with vibrant acidity. Flavors of citrus zest, tropical hints, white-fleshed fruit, and saline minerality lead to a vertical, lively finish with lingering bitterness and freshness. Enriched elegance suits seafood risottos, spiced dishes, or cheese
