Les Forts de Latour is the second wine of Château Latour, a First Growth (Premier Cru Classé) estate in the Pauillac appellation of Bordeaux’s Médoc region. Introduced in 1966, it’s one of the most prestigious second wines in Bordeaux, often rivaling the quality of many châteaux’s grand vins. Unlike the grand vin (Château Latour), which comes exclusively from the L’Enclos vineyard, Les Forts de Latour draws from a broader selection of estate grapes, offering a more approachable yet still age-worthy expression of the Latour style. The 2015 vintage is widely regarded as an outstanding year for Bordeaux, and this wine reflects the vintage’s richness, balance, and potential. The 2015 Les Forts de Latour is a blend of 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35.6% Merlot, and 1.4% Petit Verdot. This vintage leans slightly less on Cabernet Sauvignon than some years, with a higher Merlot component adding roundness.
The 2015 Les Forts de Latour is a standout second wine, capturing the vintage’s opulence and the estate’s finesse. It’s ideal for current enjoyment or long-term cellaring.. Deep ruby with a purple edge. Rich and intense, with aromas of blackberry, cassis, and dark cherry, layered with graphite, spice (licorice, clove), violets, and a hint of earthiness or minerality. Some tasters note subtle smoky or toasted oak nuances. Full-bodied yet polished, with ripe, velvety tannins, fresh acidity, and concentrated fruit. It offers a core of dark berries and plums, complemented by savory graphite, spice, and a touch of floral elegance. The finish is long, structured, and slightly grippy, with a mineral backbone that promises longevity. Approachable now with decanting, it’s built to evolve beautifully for 20–30 years (through 2035–2045), gaining complexity and softness over time.
